We enjoyed this beautiful outdoor wedding and visiting the Cedar River. We loved it so much, we actually went back about a week later to do more exploring ourselves. Robyn and Darrell were of course a blast to work with — we think all of our couples are :) The backyard wedding was so nice and intimate; we thought it was a great way to make this celebration really personal.

Spring Wedding Inspiration – Planning, Design & Rentals
We had a fun photo shoot this spring to showcase some of Leslie’s many skills and a few of our rentals. We met before sunrise to begin set up to catch that beautiful morning light. The dew made my canvas shoes sloshy and my feet cold. I remember being quite excited when the warm sun finally came out. Below are a few of those photos.
If there is anything you see that you would love for your next event, get in touch! We would be happy to custom create decor and help bring your own vision to life. By the way, Leslie’s desserts don’t just look pretty, they are delicious. She’s happy to make your wedding and shower cakes or create an entire dessert table like you see here!

Ron & Dawn – Engagement Photos & Super 8 Film – Des Moines, Iowa
We had a fun time with Ron and Dawn on this engagement shoot. They’re planning a vintage/rockabilly wedding this fall, so they themed their engagement shoot accordingly. We always love when our couples make a little extra effort towards creating a unique and personal engagement shoot. It makes them so fun and memorable. We started at the Arie Den Boer Arboretum here in Des Moines. This has long been a favorite springtime spot of ours. Closer to dusk, we headed to the historic Heritage Carousel and enjoyed having the place to ourselves.

Grant & Allison Maternity – Des Moines, Iowa
You might remember our friends Grant and Allison from their birth announcement last fall. Since then, the family of two has become four with the addition of two healthy and darling baby boys, Benjamin and Theodore. We got to spend part of last weekend with the boys on their first fishing trip (but I don’t think they’ll remember).
To take you back a few months, here are some shots of Grant and Allison earlier this year, full of anticipation and joy :)

Strawberry Cream Birthday Suprise
We’ve been gearing up for wedding season to arrive after several chilly winter months. In the meantime, we also get to have fun celebrating birthdays.
Last week was one of those monumental birthdays for a friend of mine. She had been dropping hints to me that her grandmother used to bake her a strawberry cake every year to celebrate. This year was my turn to provide the cake, and I was happy to start thinking spring. I pulled out a warmer weather recipe for her surprise cake, the Strawberry Cream cake. Pardon my picture quality guys… I only had my iPhone around to quickly snap these photos before heading off to the party.
Yum. This is a pure strawberry cake, topped with a strawberry buttercream. I also couldn’t help but add a little fun to the cake. I used the party napkins as my inspiration and created a quick cake bunting.
The cake was definitely a surprise to my friend; we might have even seen a tear or two. I love that I get to be a part of special events like this, but honing in on special family memories and traditions is my favorite.
